What are the criteria for my school to take part in the Green Paper project?

Data collection will be taking place in various regions across England.

We will recruit pupils and parents to participate in this study through the school’s mental health support team in these areas. A member of the research team will meet with staff at the school/college either during recruitment or once they have agreed to take part to discuss data collection.

How will the Green Paper project benefit schools and students?

By having your pupils and their parents/carers participate in the study, you will allow the research team to find out how effective the mental health support teams (MHSTs) at schools are and why. These findings will go towards making improvements to the mental health support offered in schools, benefitting students’ wellbeing.

Once data has been collected and analysed, we will send infographics and report summaries to all sites participating in the study. This will enable you to use our findings to help improve your school’s approach to mental health support and awareness.

Will students’ answers be anonymous?

Answers to the surveys will be made anonymous and will only be accessible to the researchers and the wellbeing staff at school.

Answers to the interview questions will be made anonymous and will only be accessible to the researchers.

Your school and mental health support team will also not be named in the report and articles.

When is the study taking place?

We are currently aiming to collect data from January 2025, but this may be subject to change.

Can I receive further information?

If your school meets the criteria of having implemented a mental health support team and is one of the selected case study sites, the research team will be in contact with the mental health support team at your school to recruit participants and can provide further information.
